Art in Qiaoshan - Guangdong Nanhai Land Art Festival

The "Art in Qiaoshan - Guangdong Nanhai Land Art Festival" is hosted by the People's Government of Nanhai District, Foshan City, and organized by the "China Project of the Land Art Festival" team (Hanhe Culture). It adopts the methodology of "artistic creation" and adheres to the standards of "locality, comprehensiveness, synergy, and sustainable development". It is the first regional art festival of its kind in China. The art festival aims to support rural revitalization, serve the local area, promote the integration of culture and tourism as well as the development of the humanistic economy. It is positioned as a long-term "local cultural project", held every two years, and is deeply rooted and developed in the local area.

The art festival has always focused on in-depth cultural exploration and research, regional revitalization practices, and building cross-regional and cross-field cultural connections. Through continuous, international, and high-quality cultural and artistic actions, it drives regional revitalization, showcases local values, shapes the city's reputation and influence, and stimulates social vitality. Help build Nanhai into a "cultural highland of the Greater Bay Area" and a "World destination for cultural and artistic tourism".

Since its first launch in November 2022, the "Art in Qiaoshan - Guangdong Nanhai Land Art Festival" has brought together 271 artists from 239 groups in 31 countries and regions over the past two sessions, creating 131 groups with a total of 353 artworks. During the main exhibition period, nearly 240 local volunteers were organized in total. The two sessions received over 2.5 million visitors and tourists, generating nearly 1.5 billion yuan in tourism revenue. The total number of views on the topic across the entire network exceeded 100 million.

The "Art in Qiaoshan - Guangdong Nanhai Land Art Festival 2022" takes "The Original Bay Area" as its theme, focusing on local culture, telling the stories of Nanhai, exploring Chinese innovation by integrating international experience, adopting a comprehensive layout, and is committed to the creation and development of the region. It is the first complete presentation of the Chinese project of the Land Art Festival. The main venue of the first art festival was held within a 176-square-kilometer area of Xiqiao Town. It was divided into 8 art sections, spanning two years from 2022 to 2024. The first main exhibition period was successfully held from November 18, 2022 to February 19, 2023.

The "Art in Qiaoshan - Guangdong Nanhai Land Art Festival 2024" takes "Water System Nanhai" as its theme and will be held in Xiqiao Town and Jiujiang Town, one of the seven towns and sub-districts in Nanhai District, covering an area of 271.87 square kilometers. A total of 10 art areas with distinct characteristics will be set up. A total of 95 art projects (including both the retained ones from the first session and the new ones added this time) are presented by 165 participating artists from 30 countries and regions, jointly showcasing a high-quality, local, international and diverse cross-border art feast. The main exhibition period was successfully held from November 16, 2024 to February 12, 2025.

During the non-regular exhibition period, the Nanhai Land Art Festival in Guangdong Province will enter its regular operation period. Between the changing seasons, we focus on integrating local cultural customs and festivals, and open in an orderly manner with different scales and contents to showcase the local charm and welcome more friends to come. Meanwhile, as a long-term local cultural project, the Land Art Festival, in addition to being open to public viewing, will also focus more on continuous cultural exploration and research as well as regional revitalization practices in its local work. It will continue to be committed to promoting regional revitalization, enhancing the humanistic value of towns and townships, and facilitating the integrated development of urban and rural areas through cultural and artistic activities. With continuous, international and high-quality cultural and artistic actions, Ignite the vitality of urban and rural areas in Nanhai.
