This year's China Pavilion exhibition is curated by Ma Yansong and brings together 12 cross-disciplinary creators. With the theme of "Inclusiveness and Wisdom", it explores the coexistence and development relationship between the "nature" in traditional Chinese wisdom and contemporary technological progress in the historical process of the current industrial civilization transitioning to the intelligent era. In his opening remarks, curator Ma Yansong said, "The joint presentation of these works is hoped to be a constantly visible and discussed process of change, allowing everyone to see the young architects' interpretation of Chinese traditional culture and their problem-solving approaches based on modernity and the future, as well as the different possibilities of the reproduction and extension of Chinese traditional culture."

MAD Architects

The installation work "An Oil-Paper Umbrella" by MAD Architects was displayed on the outdoor lawn of the China Pavilion at the 19th Venice International Architecture Biennale under the theme of "Intelligence: Nature, Artificial, Collective".

Huizao Society

Overpasses and elevated roads are symbols of China's rapid urbanization. These huge infrastructures have driven urban development and created miracles, but they have also given rise to many neglected urban transitional zones. "Overpass City" is a depiction, reconstruction and commemoration of the transitional zone that was born, evolved and will eventually disappear in the process of urbanization.

The work is set against the backdrop of China's urbanization process. It selects the ubiquitous green protective nets at construction sites in China as the main material and integrates the intangible cultural heritage of bamboo weaving to construct a contemporary "caisson". And through the rotation of circles, a dynamic narrative is formed, interpreting the Eastern wisdom of "harmony between man and nature" and the natural philosophy of coexistence between man and nature with a story-telling approach.

"Yes, no", taken from a pair of antonyms in Cantonese, embodies Chen Fenwan's understanding of paper-cutting techniques and his identification of his identity. From the perspective of the character shape, "none" is formed by subtracting two horizontal strokes from "have" to represent "none" in a hollow form. The charm of this character echoes the "presence" and "absence" that the paper-cutting works aim to explore. Chen Fenwan chose to take "selection and rejection", "past and present", and "hand" as the entry points, gradually unfolding layer by layer, transforming the long-term interrelationship and symbiotic relationship between individual experience and the medium of paper-cutting into a process of self-definition and structural response.

One of the missions of Yiren Construction seems to be to graft the wisdom, capabilities and energy of the city onto the countryside, and to absorb the good nutrients, regulations and craftsmanship of the countryside for the present generation. This "double-drum washing machine" style of thinking mode. Standing at the eye of The Times, one needs the weight of the spirit even more, anchored in the huge rock of thought. The rites and music have not collapsed, and the making of utensils is at its peak of perfection.

Artist: Luo Yujie Studio

Time: June 15th - September 15th, 2025

Exhibition Venue

Sugar House Gallery in Yangshuo, Guilin

Even today, there are not many firms that still persist in making handcrafted models. It is even rarest to see a project like Luo Yujie's studio, which allows people to directly feel that a project has grown almost proportionally from the two-dimensional to the three-dimensional from the drawing to the model and then to the construction. It turns out that architecture can return to the origin of space, materials and methods in this way.

This exhibition, in collaboration with three artists he trusts - Eriu Nakari, Keisuke Fujita and Yuki Ishimori, interprets their understanding of "Chaos" in their own unique ways. This exhibition also challenges a brand-new form of expression that the picture book art museum has never seen before.
